This picture represents the diversity U.S. citizens have in politics. It represents the democracy America has and how the choice is ours. The signs are lined up in such a way that the viewer can see all of the different politicians, and how each one is different. It also shows, that despite our difference in choice we can still harmonize. An in addition the sidewalk makes the leading lines to a point that a viewer feels like there are more of these signs to be seen and wont stop anytime soon yet the lighting suggests that its still gonna be okay, the future has good in it.
I like this picture. To add on to what tessa has said about political diversity, this picture also clearly illustates the photographer's personal opinion in the election by putting the sign for the democratic candidate in the foreground and signs for other candidates in the back. The medium shot allows for a variety of opinions to be shown, but for one to be preffered. Also, the only significant shadows are on the republican signs which I feel shows further preference of the photographer towards her opinion. Not that theres anything wrong with that. :]
I think that this photo represents the difficult choices that a person must make, and the conflicting and distracting messages and pressures that bombard them from all directions. Because a neutral angle is used, we as the viewers feel like we are walking down the sidewalk ourselves, encountering the colorful array of political signs. The medium shot that is used allows us to focus just as much on the plethora of signs in the distance, as well as the prominent sign in the foreground. Because the signs continue to spread up to the horizon line, the leading line of the sidewalk makes us feel that no matter how far we walk there will always be conflicting images to sway us in the way we should go.
I feel this picture represents all of the choices we as Americans have when it comes to politics. There are great leading lines in the sidewalk that draw ones eye from the large sign in front to signs following it. Vivian made a good observation about what she felt Katherine’s views were on politics due to the large sign in front and the ones in shadow. I think having the end signs in shadow and having it look as though they could keep going on and on could also mean that there are so many choices that it is overwhelming when we finally have to make a choice. The neutral angle and the medium distance show enough of the signs to get the point but also they are close enough get a more detailed view of them and the neutral angle also gives off the feeling that you are there walking down the street looking at the signs.
I think this photo focuses on how political competition has become very commonplace. There is a Kevin Staunton sign in the bottom corner, with competing signs seen in the next lawn. The sidewalk is also used as a leading line, leading one into the distance. This implies that there are more signs, and thus more division, further along this street. The neutral camera angle is used to make it seem like we were walking down this sidewalk and saw these signs. This further reaffirms how common these signs are, and we can easily imagine running into a scenario like this on the way to the school, or the like. The street in the middle of the picture, I also think is used to show how divisive this political competition has become. It separates what would otherwise be close neighbors.
